This past weekend was Setsucon, it is a small two day convention held in State College. While it was a small convention we still had a blast as always. I was very impressed with the creations on display and sale at the artists alley. There were plenty of talented people showing off their work that I was slightly intimidated about my own creations and motivated to try harder to achieve the perfection I hold myself at. It was great to talk to the artists about their work and see how proud they were.
Hall cos-play and the masquerade displayed a number of talented people. The judges mentioned that the participants have improved from last year. Hearing that makes me look forward to what next year has to offer for both events. The winners of the masquerade entertained everyone and kept us laughing. Setsucon had something I haven’t seen and that was a host auction. Hosts of various panels got auctioned off, well a dinner with them was auctioned off and the proceeds went to a children’s charity. I was amazed at how high some people we willing to bid/pay for a dinner with the different hosts. And of course the money went to a great charity.
As with any anime convention, it is as much fun as you make it. I admit when we got there I was in a bad mood and didn’t have too much fun. But once I let go of my bad mood I had so much fun. The group of people we went with decided to play “the floor is lava.” It was a lot of fun to yell “The floor is lava” and then jump on things and few other people joined in and jumped on things, but it was mostly my group. We got some great pictures as well. At one point I visited the NPC and got a quest to yell “subs are better than dubs.” I didn’t want to do it alone, so I got the whole group to be it and it was fun, we got chocolate pieces for doing that.

There were many amazing cos-plays, including two hobbits who were on their way to Mordor. I have to say Setsucon was a great start to our convention season. Next convention is Tekko in Pittsburgh in March. Have a great day!
