Tonight we are going through the fabric at the house trying to figure out what fabric we can use for cosplays we are panning. That’s one of the hardest parts for me in planning out a cosplay. You want to really look at the costume you want to do and figure out what could be the best fabric for it. There are some costumes that you can tell a cotton fabric would be better than a satin. You want to decide if you want a heavy fabric or something lighter. Time of year and climate helps you decided that. Do you want something stretchy or not. For example for my Miaka costume I wanted a satin like fabric that was somewhat shiney for the red, so I went with a costume satin. Then for the white sleeves, I wanted something that would flow an be see through: so I went with a gossimer like fabric (I honestly forget the name.)
While you are deciding that, before you buy something, go out to a fabric store like JoAnn’s Fabric and search through what they have an look at the different fabrics, compare and contrast what you might want to use for your costume. Right now we are searching for the right fabric for Toni’s Scarlet cosplay and we need to have the right fabric, so we spent an evening at JoAnn’s searching through their fabrics looking for the right fabric she wants for the costume. You want to look for a fabric that would fray easily and would hold the stitch.
