It seems that every time I watch a new anime I find a new character I want to cos-play. I have a large list of future cos-plays I would like to complete because there are plenty of strong independent women along with beautiful and intricate costumes they wear. I would love to be able to have a cos-play that is breath taking. It was a lot of fun making the two cos-plays that I have completed. Though there were times I got frustrated, but it was worth it and worth the sweat, tears and yes blood.
There is a sense of accomplishment and proud you get when you take a picture of a cos-play and turn it into an amazing piece of art. I do think cos-playing is a a form of art because there is a lot that goes into it. You take a picture and do all the necessary steps to make it into something you wear and display. It’s an amazing feeling. One of the best parts is when you are finish and little kids get excited over who you are portraying. At Otakon last year I had a little girl whisper to her dad “oh my gosh daddy it’s Gumi.” Then she asked if she could get a picture taken with me. The look on her face made it feel like I was acutally Gumi, not a person portraying her. Its even fun when we walk around and people see Tom as Kaito and they just shout “KAAAAIITO.”
I know I have a large list of cos-plays to work on and some are going to be expensive like Imitation Black Gumi because for just one part I am going to need 17 yards of fabric. But I will do it in steps and take my time one getting it done. It is going to look amazing. Creating my cos-plays brings me so much joy that I didn’t expect when I started cos-playing. When I finish some I am working on now, I might enter into Hall Cos-play again and maybe, just maybe win an award. We shall see.
