So far Katsucon has been amazing. When I walked into the venue my breath was taken away. This building is beyond gorgeous. There is like a little city within the building and a fountain in the Atrium area. Plants everywhere you look, everything about the hotel/convention center is elegant and classy. There is also some sort of Jewish conference this weekend so while we need to be respectful of each other, we also need to be respectful of them. One nice thing is that we have been able to talk to more people about cosplay and how much of an art form it really is compared to the stereotypes that are out there.
Opening ceremonies I do admit was not what I was expecting but it set the stage for the entire weekend. They opened up with Mime, a dance group who performed at Katsucon in 2012 and the staff was so impressed with them that they asked if they would promote the convention through their art and be among the panels this year, so that was pretty awesome to see and hear a story like that. Then we were introduced to Sound of Bee HD and Danny K. No voice actors though like Anime USA, but it was still a wonderful opening ceremony I am glad I attended it.
Later in the evening we attended the Iron Cosplay. Now I have never attended this panel but I have heard things about it. It is basically just like Iron Chef ,but with cosplay. So contestants would be presented with a range of items to use as well as a special ingredient which they had to design a cosplay around. This was both creative and amusing. Tom and Josh were two of the first contestants who had to use a funnel of sorts which was made in a tail of a dinosaur/Godzilla cosplay.
We haven’t done too much yet since we got here later in the day and have been familiarizing ourselves with the layout. With any new convention you need to explore a little bit to learn where things are and how to navigate the place and not get lost. I was also scoping out good place to take photos as well as exits in case we needed to go somewhere like the store or to get something to eat. We have seen some amazing cosplays such as a Princess Celestia ball gown, which was exactly that. A white ballgown with pastel rainbow colors down the back as well as a light-up gem in the middle. I was amazed at how beautiful this costume was on this cosplayer. We have taken several pictures of other cosplayers, and some have been taken of ourselves.

Right now I am sitting on the balcony of our room watching several cosplayers (including those from Cosplay Kitchen) dance near the fountain. It is a nice way to relax and recharge before doing some more events and panels. There are a few things we have been looking at to do tonight, though I think I might crash here soon because we woke up at an ungodly hour of 4 am this morning in order to drive here. But it was well worth the drive, and early wake up.
