As the year comes to a close in a few weeks I have been thinking about some of the popular cosplays that we at Cosplay Kitchen have seen throughout the year. At any convention you will have a consistant strain of popular cosplays, for example whichever convention you go to no matter the time of year you will see Vocaloids, My Little Pony, Soul Eater and more. Disney princesses are also popular, and I was so happy to see Merida from Brave added into the mix of princesses we seen this year. One of the Meridas we seen was done exceptionally well down to how the cosplayer carried herself. The costume was amazing and her hair was the right color and the right amount of “wild.”
One of the most popular cosplays I have seen this year was The Avengers bunny girls; complete with Loki. It was nice to see a different take on a female version of super heros and I am sure we will start seeing bunny girls of other superheros. Most of the time we seen them in the group, I don’t believe we seen one Avenger bunny girl alone. All of their costumes looked amazing and wonderful, but I think the best ones that we seen were from Otakon. We first seen the girls walking on the street going to lunch and they looked amazing. Then we seen the cosplay done again at Anime USA and throughout pictures friends have taken from various other conventions. It seems this year Avenger bunny girls were very popular.
Another cosplay that was popular at Otakon was Magical Girl Madoka cosplays. That was their theme for the year so many cosplayers choose that as their costume for the weekend. It was great to see that done by so many people, especially since I just recently watched it and feel in love with the characters. Otakon even had bunny girl versions of the characters. I think in general bunny girls are popular among the female con-goer population. They are a cute idea to attempt with a anime character or gaming character.

One cosplay I didn’t see a whole lot of this year was Sailor Moon. Granted there were a few, but not a whole lot like I am used to seeing. Recently Kirito from Sword Art Online has become very popular as he is an amazing character to cosplay. With this year coming to a close, I am looking forward to seeing what next year has to offer.
